Q. Why is a sapling used in a topping out ceremony?
A. Traditionally, a sapling - often an evergreen - is placed atop the building's frame during a topping out ceremony to celebrate the milestone of reaching the highest point in construction and to represent good luck for the remainder of the project. The sapling for the topping out ceremony was donated by Hall Farms and secured by Log A Load For Kids, a volunteer organization that raises funds for ACH and has committed $2 million to the South Wing project.
