    Physician Bio

    Punkaj Gupta, M.B., B.S. is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Cardiology for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Dr. Gupta received his medical degree from Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, Panjab University, India (2000). He completed his residency training in Pediatrics at Miami Children's Hospital (2006) followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School (2009). Following the completion of this fellowship, he completed another fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford University Medical School (2010).

    Dr. Gupta joined Arkansas Children's Hospital in 2010, and is currently working as a Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Gupta is board certified in Pediatric Critical Care and General Pediatrics. He is a member of many national and international organizations, including The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society. He is also an active member of many multi-institutional consortiums working to improve care for critically ill children with heart disease.

    His clinical interests include taking care of critically ill children with congenital heart disease. His research interests include Quality Improvement Initiatives in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. His focus is on outcomes research using multi-institutional databases like The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database, American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines-Resuscitation Registry, Virtual Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Performance System (VPS, LLC) and The Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS). He has been an author of 35 peer- reviewed publications in esteemed journals. He is also an editor for journals in the field of Cardiology and Critical Care. His Quality Improvement efforts have been recognized in the form of presentations and talks at various national and international forums.
