    Physician Bio

    Xiomara Garcia, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the College of Medicine, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)/Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH).

    After graduating in 1987 from the Central University of Venezuela / Luis Razetti School of Medicine in Caracas, Dr. Garcia completed an internship in Pediatrics in the Central University's Department of Pediatrics at Hospital Miguel Perez Carreño. There she completed her pediatric residency in 1992 and Fellowship in pediatric intensive care in 1994. In 1999, she joined the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics at Texas Children's Hospital. While at Texas Children's she completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care in 2002, her pediatric residency in 2004, and in 2006 completed a second Fellowship in Cardiovascular Intensive Care. Dr. Garcia joined the faculty at UAMS/ACH in 2006, where she is currently working in the division of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care as an intensivist in both the CVICU and PICU. She has been in charge of the CVICU Chronic Care Team since 2008.

    Dr. Garcia is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Medical Association. She is certified with the American Board of Pediatrics, and the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Board. In 2014, Dr Garcia received the prestigious Ruth Olive Beall Award from ACH. Other awards include: Best Abstract at the AAP in 2013, Best Doctors in America 2009-2011, Most Outstanding Resident in the Baylor College of Medicine in 2004 and Best abstract Physician-in-training award at the AAP in 2002. Dr. Garcia's clinical research in the cardiac intensive care unit has led to publications on adrenal insufficiency, chronic care patient model and feeding strategies in single ventricle physiology. She is currently working on research regarding intracardiac lines complications and intraocular pressure in patients with congenital heart disease.
