Mark O’Brien, M.D. is a Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery of the College of Medicine at UAMS and the Director of its Pediatric Neurosurgery Division. He serves as Chief of the Neurosurgery Service at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Dr. O’Brien completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This was followed by a 2-year National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Blindness Special Fellowship.
He then joined the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine where he served as Professor of Neurosurgery, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery for over 20 years. He joined the faculty at UAMS in January 2005.
Dr. O’Brien is certified by the The American Board of Neurological Surgery and The American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association ofNeurological Surgeons. He is a founding member of The American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and a senior member of The Society of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. O’Brien has served as a Director and Secretary of The American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
Dr. O’Brien has published numerous articles in peer reviewed medical journals and is listed in Best Doctors in America.
