5D Progressive Unit
The 5D Progressive Unit is located on the fifth floor of the main hospital. The unit consists of 3 semi-private rooms and 7 private rooms which includes the capacity for eight patients requiring ventilator support.
The 5D Progressive Unit is specialized to provide comprehensive services on an inpatient basis to address the needs of children and adolescents with physical and developmental disabilities.
Team members treating children include:
- Physicians and nurses
- Physical therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Orthotists
- Prosthetists
- Speech and Language Pathologists
- Audiologists
- Respiratory therapists
- Nutritionists
- Child Life and Education coordinators
- Psychologists
- Social workers
- Discharge planning staff
Goals for the program include maximizing a patient’s functional independence, achievement of developmentally and socially appropriate skills and behavior, and the planning of an effective transition back to community-based support whenever possible.
