Burn Center Fact Sheet

• The Burn Center is the ONLY center in Arkansas
• We are a non-profit hospital providing state-of-the-care for ALL patients regardless of insurance status
• We have 16 beds, with the capability to provide care for more patients as needed
• We treat over 400 severe burns per year
• Our clinic sees over 2250 outpatient visits per year
• One-third of all our patients are pediatrics
• Most pediatric burns are preventable
• We offer Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) training for physicians and ancillary medical staff
• We have expertise with the most advanced skin substitutes that improve outcomes
• Many of our newer dressings do not require daily changes, thereby decreasing pain
• We also manage complex wounds, traumatic soft-tissue injuries, necrotizing soft-tissue infections and skin sloughing disorders
• Our surgeons also perform burn reconstruction and scar revision
• Our anesthesiologists are dedicated to the burn unit (one of few centers across the United States)
• We offer the latest in Laser Therapy for decreasing burn scars
• Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Burn Center have recently partnered up with Mexico's first and only national burn center - The National Institute of Rehabilitation to provide training for their burn surgeons
• The Burn Center offers an extensive burn training program for General and Plastic Surgeons (Burn Fellowship)
• The Burn Center staff participates in national and international conferences as well as research to provide the most advanced care to our patients
• We offer Telemedicine services to provide patient care and follow-up for who live far away
• We are involved with the following projects/groups:
  • Arkansas Fire-setter Intervention, Referral and Education (FIRE) program
  • Injury Prevention Center at Arkansas Children's Hospital
  • Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors
• The Burn Center partners with the Arkansas Professional Firefighters for an annual camp for burn survivors - Camp Sunshine
• Virtually all of our pediatric patients never miss an entire year of school
• We have Child Life Specialists that help children and families cope with the injuries, reduce anxiety/stress and facilitate school re-entry
