Fire Safety House

Fire Safety House

The mobile Kohl's Fire Safety House helps teach children how to best respond to a house fire situation. With two training rooms, props and non-toxic smoke, the house is designed to provide a realistic environment for teaching basic fire prevention and survival skills.

A certified instructor (usually a firefighter who has attended one of our classes) guides children through the house in small groups to help kids learn about smoke detectors, two-ways out, special meeting places, and the importance of not hiding during a fire. Fire Safety House visits are provided FREE of charge. For more information on the Fire Safety House education program or to schedule a class in your area, please contact Charles Maxwell at MaxwellCA@archildrens.org or 501.364.5655.

The Kohl's Fire Safety House program at Arkansas Children's Hospital has been a great success due to the strong working relationships that have been established with fire departments and community organizations throughout the state. Without question, the most important element of this success has been the participation of firefighters all across Arkansas. These joint efforts have helped to provide fire safety education to many thousands of children. Free burn prevention, fire safety material, and training are also available for teachers, firefighters and others who teach younger children.

Fire Safety House Locations

In addition to the Fire Safety House located at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, regional houses are also located at the local fire departments in Rogers, Newport, Camden, and McGehee. Firefighter(s) checking out the house must first be properly certified through a brief class offered by the Community Outreach Department.

Fire departments within each region may schedule the Fire Safety House for use at schools or community events by contacting Charles Maxwell at MaxwellCA@archildrens.org or at 501.364.5655
