The Heart Center

A Heart Center patient is comforted by his mother The Heart Center at Arkansas Children's Hospital is one of the top five hospitals in the United States for pediatric heart transplants and one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation. Since 1981, The Heart Center at ACH has become one of the nation's most important and successful resources for surgical care of congenital heart disease.

As a parent or referring physician, when you're looking for a center that specializes in congenital heart disease support and treatment, heart transplantation is one of the first gauges of experience and success. Heart transplantation is a critical component of the cardiology and cardiac surgery program at The Heart Center at ACH, one of the top three in North America. Its internationally recognized program has averaged 18 child heart transplants per year over the last five years, including a record 31 transplants for ACH in 2011, with 309 transplants to date.

In addition, the Heart Center's pioneer testing of pediatric Berlin Heart - a ventricular assist device (VAD), or blood pump, which is not available in the United States, but can be used on an emergency basis to treat heart failure until a heart transplantation procedure can be performed - has been used to sustain the lives of more pediatric patients (30+) than any other hospital in North America.

The Heart Center at Arkansas Children's Hospital is an entire pediatric cardiovascular center located within one of America's 10 largest pediatric hospitals. It has earned a reputation as a world leader in pediatric cardiology and the care of cardiovascular patients from infancy to adulthood. The Center offers advanced techniques for the diagnosis and management of a full range of pediatric and congenital heart disease support, diagnosis, and management:
