Physical Therapy

Physical therapists at Arkansas Children's Hospital offer services to both inpatients and outpatients to evaluate and treat children with the goal of improving functional independence.

  • Physical therapy services include the following:
    • Determining adaptive equipment needs
    • Measurement for custom compression garments
    • Serial casting
    • Gait training
    • Developmental intervention
    • Wound care
    • Strengthening and conditioning exercise
    • Aquatic therapy
    • Sports rehabilitation
    • Training with lower extremity orthotic and prosthetic devices

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists at Arkansas Children's Hospital are licensed by the State of Arkansas. All hold either bachelors or master's degree in the practice of occupational therapy. They are trained to offer services in acute care, ICUs, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient services, and in specialty clinics. Occupational therapists evaluate and treat children from premature babies to young adults with physical disabilities, developmental delays, oral-motor difficulties, and perceptual-motor problems. The goal of OT is to help each child reach their maximum potential for success with developmentally appropriate movements and skills.

  • Primary services offered include the following:
    • Evaluations
    • Splinting for orthopedic injuries or neurological disorders
    • Determining adaptive equipment needs
    • Seating evaluations and pressure mapping
    • Oral feeding/Videofluroscopic swallowing studies
    • Progression of developmental skills
    • Burn intervention and scar management
    • Functional skill and activities of daily living retraining and use of adaptive equipment
    • Aquatic therapy
    • Orthopedic rehabilitation


Prosthetist and Orthotist at Arkansas Children's Hospital are licensed by the State of Arkansas. Orthetists and Prosthetists provide patient care and services to children with neuromuscular or musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limbs, lower limbs, spine, torso and head.

    • Upper and lower extremity prosthetics
    • Custom AFOs, SMOs, and KAFOs
    • Custom upper extremities
    • Fracture management
    • Hip and clubfoot orthoses
    • Inpatient care
    • Cranial helmets
    • Non custom orthoses/soft goods
    • Sports bracing
