Inpatient Rehab Speech Pathology Services
Arkansas Children's Hospital is fortunate to have acute rehabilitation services, which provides opportunities for more intensive therapy services prior to discharge from the hospital. The speech-language pathologist is part of an inpatient rehabilitation team, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and child life specialists. The family is valued as an integral part of this team, and is encouraged to attend weekly team meetings to discuss updates on the patient regarding progress in therapies, expected time of discharge from the hospital, and any specific needs following discharge.
The Speech Language Pathology Department at Arkansas Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive assessment and treatment of speech, cognitive-linguistic, and feeding/swallowing skills of children following brain injury. Assistance is also provided in the area of reintegration into the home and school settings. Detailed discharge summaries are provided, including a list of recommendations for improving success in the community and school environments.
