Clinical Pharmacology
• Assessment and evaluation of all clinical pharmacology problems including therapeutic selection in special populations, drug related efficacy and safety, drug interactions, and adverse drug effects
• Assessment and evaluation of problems concerning clinical pharmacokinetics including adjustments of drug dosing for patients with renal and/or hepatic compromise and bioavailability assessments
• Pharmacokinetic optimization of drug therapy for specialized patients on a consultative basis or through the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Service
• Provides consultation for tapers of opioid and benzodiazepine drugs in critically ill children
Clinical Toxicology
The Section on Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by Board certified (or eligible) professionals in Clinical Pharmacology.
• Consultation regarding the identification, emergency management, clinical care and follow-up evaluation for poisonings on a 24-hour basis
• Specialized services for chronic intoxications common to pediatrics (i.e. lead poisoning) are also provided on a consultative basis
• Expertise in the management of snake and spider envenomations
