Father and Daughter Put the Hearts in the Hands of ACH Cardiology
Submitted by Stacy Cornwell, mother of patient Emma
Benton, AR

Emma Brooke Cornwell was born on June 1, 2008. She was born at 35 weeks and seemed to be having some trouble breathing, so the NICU at the hospital were watching her very closely. It was the next day that the day nurse, who just so happened to have previously worked at ACH in NICU, realized that her pulse ox rate was just not right. She called the doctor to ask if they could check her heart. They did an echo and sent the test results to ACH. Two hours later, my daughter was on her way on Angel One to ACH.

The cardiologists at ACH discovered that she was born with a congenital heart defect known as Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return. She had open heart surgery at 9 days old. She was here for 24 days total. We knew there was no one else that we wanted to treat our daughter! My husband is also a heart patient here at ACH! The Cardiology team is like our second family. I could never THANK them enough for saving not only my child's life, but that of my husband also!
