Job Shadowing FAQs

  • Q: I am younger than 18, do I need my parents to sign the Job Shadowing Registration/Application form?
    A:

Yes, there is a place on the "Shadowing Confidentiality and Attestation Agreement" form for your parent or guardian to sign.

  • Q: I have completed the Job Shadowing Registration Form. What should I do next?
    A:

Once you have completed the entire registration form, obtained your influenza vaccination (during flu season), and obtained proof of 2 TB skin tests, you can turn your information in to the Volunteer Services office.  You can fax this information to us at 501-364-6251 or email it to us at volunteerservices@archildrens.orgApplications/registration forms will not be considered or processed until all requirements are complete and submitted (all must be submitted together).  A completed application should include:  registration form, confidentiality and attestation form, and health screening form (including TB tests and influenza vaccination information).  Incomplete application forms will not be accepted.

  • Q: How far in advance should I submit my completed Job Shadowing Registration Form?
    A:

We ask that you turn in your registration form no earlier than 3 months, but not later than 3 weeks prior to your requested date.   You will be contacted approximately 2 weeks prior to your requested shadow date to inform you if we are able to meet your request to shadow.

  • Q: Are there certain areas that will not accept Job Shadowing participants?
    A:

There are certain hospital departments that will not accept shadowing participants.  We will make every effort to accommodate you, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to match you with a certain area/department.

  • Q: I have submitted my form. What happens next?
    A:

You will be contacted approximately 2 weeks prior to your requested shadow date to inform you if we are able to meet your request to shadow.

  • Q: I have been scheduled to job shadow at Arkansas Children's Hospital and I seem to be coming down with a cold/illness. What should I do?
    A:

You should call the Volunteer Services office at 501-364-1825.  We will try to work with you to schedule another time for your shadowing experience.

  • Q: Where will I meet hospital staff on the day of my job shadow experience?
    A:

Students and adults will receive an email confirmation that will include details of where to meet and also confirmation of the dates we were able to schedule your shadowing experience.

  • Q: Can you explain the TB skin testing procedure and tell me where I can obtain this documentation?
    A:

Two TB Skin Test results are required in order to shadow.  You will have a TB Skin Test administered and have that read in 48 to 72 hours (you will be told when to return to have your test read) for your first TB test result.  You will then return in two weeks to have another TB Skin Test administered and have that read.  *If you have had a previous TB test (within the past two years), you will only need to obtain one more TB skin test.  You will need to provide the results of both tests with your shadowing registration forms.

You can go to your physician, a clinic or Arkansas Children's Hospital's Employee Health.  Students under the age of 18 must take a form and have a parent or guardian with them (this form is included in the high school shadowing application packet).

You may drop in to Arkansas Children's Hospital Employee Health without an appointment on Tuesdays from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Employee Health is located in the basement of the Human Resources building which is in the green crayon lot (parking lot located across the street from the main entrance of the hospital).  ACH is glad to provide this service to you at no charge through our Employee Health Department.  If their times are not convenient for you, you may want to go to your physician or your community clinic.
