Family Packs and Waiting Area Items Needed
Are you looking for a project for your group or organization? As we care for our patients here at ACH, we also care for their families! Many of the families here have unexpected stays. We have a need for "family packs" - a Ziploc bag (7-8 inches or 1 quart) full of small toiletries and personal hygiene items. Individual toiletry items can also be used (not packaged together). Travel size items are desired for convenience-toothbrushes, small toothpastes, mouthwash, combs, soaps, shampoo/conditioners, lotions, deodorants, razors, and small sewing kits. Small writing tablets and ink pens are also appreciated. Individual ethnic hair care items are also a need - shampoo, hair and scalp conditioner, oil moisturizer, oil sheen spray, and styling gel.
As many of our families have unexpected or long stays in our waiting areas, the following items can make a difference in their comfort: individually wrapped snack items (chips, crackers, cookies, granola bars, etc.), individually wrapped breakfast items (honey buns, pastries, muffins, etc.), fruit cups, hot tea bags, hot chocolate, crossword puzzles and card games/adult board games.
These items are provided to our parents and caregivers who have a need for them during their hospital stay. If you would like to donate these items, please email or call our office for more information (email@example.com or 501-364-1825).
Prizes for Inpatients and Outpatients
Many of our inpatients and outpatients need small prizes or incentives after they have undergone procedures. These items help make their day a little brighter! Examples of items that we can use are: Barbies, action figures (without weapons), Matchbox cars or other smaller size cars, small stuffed animals (Beanie Baby-type), card games, travel games, handheld electronic games (small, inexpensive ones), small etch a sketch or magna doodles, Barrel of Monkeys, yo-yo's, sunglasses (all ages), baseball style caps, jump ropes, super bouncy balls (1 ½" diameter or bigger), bubbles (4 or 6 oz. bottles), silly straws, silly socks, fun pencils/pens, dress-up items (animal masks, wands, shoes, crowns, etc.) and other small items. Please contact Volunteer Services at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions!
Items Needed for ACH's Burn Center
Many of our Burn Center patients have long stays here at ACH. Your group or organization can help make their stay a little more comfortable by providing certain supplies! Our Burn Center treats both adult and pediatric patients, so we need activities to occupy a wide age-range of patients. Toiletry items (soaps, lotions, etc.), DVDs, portable CD players, music CDs, phone cards, pajamas (preferably button-down), robes, and slippers can help make a patient's stay more comfortable. Scarves, hats, gloves, and even picture frames make great gifts for these patients as well. Right now we are in need of summer pajamas for our adult patients (cotton button-down). Please contact Volunteer Services (email@example.com or 501-364-1825) with any questions.

Our most requested items are: individual packages of dry soup mix, granola bars, cookies, chips, raisins and dried fruit. Please contact the Volunteer Services office at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 501-364-1825 with any questions.

Comfort Food is a new program at ACH designed to assist families. Groups can donate pre-packaged food for our ICU waiting rooms. A cookie, a sandwich, or even a warm dinner has the ability to help parents of critically-ill patients manage through difficult times. It offers them not only sustenance, but an opportunity to take a break from their stressors and share a moment with others in similar situations. Our goal at ACH is to partner with our neighbors in the community to meet these parents' needs. There are various ways to participate in this program and offer support to our parents. If you (or your community group) are interested in the program, you can set your own level of involvement in the Comfort Food program. You may opt to contribute once, or even see a monthly event as a more suitable volunteer opportunity. Please contact Volunteer Services (email@example.com or 501-364-1825) to find out more about program participation options.

Host a mock party for your organization or group, request that your guests bring gifts suitable for children, and then donate gifts to ACH. You may host any of the suggested mock parties (Sweet Sixteen, Un-Birthday Parties, or Baby Showers). . .or even create one of your own!
Some of Arkansas Children's Hospital's projects are short-term or seasonal and may be outdoors such as landscaping, clean-up or painting. They may also be inside projects such as cleaning playrooms, toys or assisting with holiday decorations. These projects are very important to ACH and help us complete larger tasks in a timely manner. These tasks contribute to an improved overall appearance of the hospital, which creates a very pleasant environment for our patients and their families.
