Pharmacy Department

Click here to watch a video on the Pharmacy Department at ACH.

The Pharmacy Department at ACH works as part of Team ACH providing high quality health care to the children of Arkansas. Our 60 plus member department strives to be on the leading-edge of therapy and that means our pharmacists and technicians are called upon to acquire and utilize new information daily. We screen all medication orders either on the unit or in the pharmacy to ensure quality and identify potential problems with dosage, drug therapy regimens and drug interactions. Our interventions are a valued part of the ACH patient safety program. ACH is the Pediatric teaching arm of the University of Arkansas Medical System. Being a teaching hospital means ACH is dedicated to furthering the education of all team members. Consider being a part of our team as we participate in changing children’s lives.

Specialty Areas
Our pharmacy team members experience many exciting practice opportunities. We invite you to consider launching or continuing a pharmacy career in the following areas of our hospital:

  • Inpatient
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Hematology/Oncology Unit
  • Operating Room Satellite
  • Heart Center

How does Team ACH work? Pharmacists work directly with pharmacy technicians to enter over 25,000 medication orders and to prepare over 100,000 doses each month. Doses are prepared for the smallest neonate at 500 grams to adult burn patients and everyone in between. Our team is committed to patient safety and provides quality service 24 hours each day.

We’re unique. Choosing to practice at ACH would mean that you may have the opportunity to:

  • prepare specialty doses for pediatric patients
  • work at a teaching site that provides pediatric and hospital pharmacy rotations and currently runs over 100 investigational drug studies a year
  • have the opportunity to respond as part of code and trauma teams during medical emergencies
  • participate in patient care team rounds
  • work with PCA’s, ketogenic diets, therapeutic drug monitoring and other challenging activities

If you are selected as part of our team we make this commitment to you:

  • You will be compensated for the contribution you make.
  • You will have benefits to meet needs of you and your family.
  • Ongoing educational and professional development opportunities will be part of your life with us.
  • We will furnish you with the tools and technology to be best.
  • You will have the opportunity to practice your profession at the highest level of excellence.
  • Management and administration will listen to you; your voice counts.
  • You will have fun and be part of a true team.
  • You will learn to be part of the giving of Care, Love and Hope.
  • You will make a difference in people’s lives.

If you are just looking for a job we may not be the right place for you and we wish you well in your search. But if you are committed to excellence, open to challenges and growth and desiring to make a difference we say to you "Welcome Home".
