An endowment is a fund that provides on-going financial support for a program
the donor cherishes. While the principal remains intact, earnings from the endowment
enable the fund to provide income. At Arkansas Children's Hospital, our endowments
support the well being of children in many ways. Some provide income for whatever
needs are greatest; some support research that looks to the future health of
children; some provide for immediate use for the care and healing of children
within specified areas. All benefit our children, whatever the program.
ACH Foundation policy is to establish a spend rate annually, allowing for a
conservative percent of interest to be used for programs. The additional earnings
roll back into the endowment so that it can grow through the years. This secures
against inflation so that, as it grows, it can produce greater income for the
care of the children.
Many friends of Children’s Hospital also appreciate the opportunities
that endowment giving provides them. Since the gift of an endowment remains
in perpetuity, the donor may specify the name of the endowment, whether it is
in the donor’s name or in the name of a family member or others held dear.
Also, the endowment may be set up to benefit any program the donor wishes.
We ask that donors meet a minimum goal of $25,000 to establish an endowment.
This may be achieved over 3 to 5 years. An endowment of $25,000 will provide
income for programs to benefit children each year, and any extra income earned
will increase the principal so that it can produce a greater gift each year.
The original donor and others may also add to the endowment fund at any time.
All named endowments of $100,000 will be permanently recognized in the main
lobby of the hospital. Gifts of $1,000 or more are also recognized in the year
that they are made.
