Child Passenger Safety Education Program

The mission of the Child Passenger Safety Education (CPSE) Program, is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries to children involved in automobile crashes by educating the public on all aspects of child passenger safety, with an emphasis on rural and minority populations, and by providing training that is targeted to childcare and health care professionals.

Current activities of the CPSE Program include conducting National Highway Traffic Safety Administration child passenger safety (CPS) training courses; providing educational workshops on the basics of CPS; loaning child safety seats through a fitting station for parents and caregivers; conducting child safety seat check-ups for parents and caregivers to ensure correct installation of child seats; and coordinating a child safety seat satellite site distribution program for communities with certified CPS technicians. This distribution program is to provide seed resources to organizations that have or are establishing CPS activities or have unique opportunities to access children from vulnerable populations.

Funding for CPSE originates with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and is administered through the Highway Safety Office of the Arkansas State Police. For more information, please contact Virginia Lancaster, Project Coordinator, at 501-364-2478 or lancastervirginiae@uams.edu.
