Orthopaedics

Orthopaedic Clinic

Problems of an orthopaedic nature involving the bones, joints and muscles in children are seen in this clinic. Such conditions include congenital, acquired and traumatic limb deformities, scoliosis and spinal deformities, neuromuscular disease or any problems with bone, joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves that affect growing children.

Fracture Clinic

Follow-up care for problems realted to fractures of bones, dislocations of joints and other traumatic disorders is provided in this clinic.

Orthopaedic Limb Reconstruction Clinic

Examples of conditions treated at this clinic include congenital limb deficiencies such as fibular hemimelia, proximal femoral focal deficiency, hemiatrophy, radial hypoplasia, multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, vitamin D resistant rickets with bowing and limb length inequality. The clinic also treats acquired conditions such as bone loss from fractures, osteomyelitis, nonunions, growth arrests from both trauma and infections and malunions or significant deformities of bone.

Orthopaedic Oncology

The specialty of Orthopaedic Oncology encompasses a broad range of bone and soft tissue tumors, malignant tumors such as osteogenic sarcoma and soft tissue sarcomas and benign processes such as bone cysts and exostoses. The emphasis is on limb preservation techniques and skeletal reconstruction. New patient evaluation will include physical examination, x-ray evaluation and comprehensive assessment. A team approach is emphasized in all cases to include: the family, hematology/oncology, radiation therapy, physical therapy, counseling and social work.

Hand Clinic

This clinic covers trauma, arthritis and congenital and acquired deformities of the hand and upper extremities from simple fractures to complete reconstruction. The clinic also offers reconstruction due to neuromuscular, cerebral palsy and nerve injuries.

Note: These clinics are available to your child by physician referral. Talk with your child’s physician and tell him/her you would like to be referred to ACH. Have the doctor contact the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Physician Referral Services Department to make a referral. If your child does not have a regular physician, please call 501-364-5901 and we will be happy to recommend one in your area.
