Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
This unit is designed for complete physiologic and radiographic evaluation of
infants and children with cardiovascular abnormalities. It includes two bi-plane
cineangiographic units that allow for an infinite variety of angled angiographic
views. This is a new state-of-the-art digital angiographic system that allows
on-line analysis of angiograms and state-of-the-art interventional catheterization
procedures. Complete physiologic recording capabilities exist so that total
body oxygen consumption can be measured along with blood oxygen saturations
and intravascular or intracardiac pressure recording. A variety of techniques
exist for the measurement and calculation of the cardiac output. Intracardiac
electrophysiologic studies are also accomplished with the newest electronic
recording devices. Management of complex cardiac arrhythmias including radiofrequency
ablation for treatment of arrhythmias is performed routinely. These rooms are
staffed by two nurses and three radiographic technologists, all of whom are
trained in cardiac physiology and anatomy. Also special procedures are performed
in the adjacent special procedures laboratory including peripheral and cerebral
angiography as well as percutaneous drainage procedures under fluoroscopic guidance.
Gastroenterology Laboratory
The Gastroenterology (GI) Lab is a procedural lab conducting sedated and unsedated
tests on patients with gastrointestinal complaints. Each patient must have been
seen by a gastroenterologist with privileges to conduct tests in the lab. The
procedures most commonly performed in the GI Lab are EGDs, colonoscopies, flexible
sigmoidoscopies, liver biopsies, pH probe placement and breath hydrogen collection
(for lactose intolerance). The GI Lab does not perform upper GI series, barium
swallow study, and lower GI series (barium or hypaque enema). These tests are
performed in radiology.
Neurophysiology Laboratory
This lab provides state-of-the-art neurophysiological testing for inpatients
and outpatients of all ages. The many modalities of testing include: routine
and portable EEG, digital EEG, evoked potential, EMG, 24-hour ambulatory EEG,
intraoperative monitoring for neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery and extensive
long-term video telemetry EEG for both medical and surgical treatment of epilepsy.
Tissue Typing Laboratory (UAMS)
The HLA laboratory is a service offered by UAMS and supports the clinical solid
organ transplantation programs for the state of Arkansas. These services include
identification of specific tissue antigens, including HLA-A, B, C, DR, DQ, lymphocytotoxicity
crossmatches and determining presence and specificity of circulating Anti-HLA
antibody.
Urodynamic Laboratory
The Urodynamic Laboratory services are available to test various urinary tract
abnormalities including neurogenic bladder, voiding difficulties, incontinence
and bed wetting. Tests include cystometrograms, electromyography and urine flow
rates.
