September 1978 – The Arkansas Newborn Transport Service (ANTS) was born. A specially equipped ambulance was utilized to transport patients from throughout the state.
February 1983 – A twin engine, fixed wing aircraft was contracted out of Central Flying Service, Little Rock.
Fall 1983 – ACH purchased a new ambulance with assistance from the Governor’s Emergency Fund. It was used to transport patients within a 100 mile radius of Little Rock.
December 1985 – ACH leases a Bell Long Ranger Helicopter N86CH from Central Flying Service. The helicopter will also be used by University Hospital to transport critical patients. This program was called CareFlight. At that time we were transporting approximately 50 patients per month within the transport system which includes “2 planes and several ambulances”- Don Walter, Neonatologist.
December 1985 - ACH built our 1st helipad at the north east corner of the hospital for all the State to see.
December 25, 1985 – N86CH was put into service.
December 11, 1987 – The Bell Long Ranger Helicopter burnt on the helipad at ACH. The cause of this fire was determined to be due to a petroleum product coming in contact with the liquid oxygen which was being refilled.
Summer 1988 – The original N86CH was replaced with a refurbished Eurocopter BO-105 helicopter purchased to replace the Long Ranger.
Fall 1989 – Purchased Ford E350 ambulance named “Angel 2”.
Spring 1990 – Began Mobile Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Transports via 374th Medical Detachment Unit utilizing a UH1 Helicopter. This mode was utilized until the 374th was activated for duty for Desert Storm.
Summer 1991 – ACH began looking for a second helicopter which could accommodate the Mobile ECMO unit.
May 1992 – Took delivery of N792CH Sikorsky S-76A. It was fitted with an EMS interior to be compatible with our needs. This helicopter was able to transport Mobile ECMO as well as accommodate 2 patients side by side.
July 22, 1992 – Petroleum Helicopters Incorporated was contracted to provide Pilot and Mechanical support for ACH.
July 22, 1992 – The inaugural flight of N792CH was to Springdale, Arkansas for a neonate.
October 1992 – N792CH was put on display at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Spring 1993 – Purchased Freightliner Ambulance named “Angel 1”.
Summer 1994 – The Amity Volunteer Fire Department donated an almost brand new ambulance to ACH. This ambulance only had 20,000 miles and replaced “Angel 4” as the newest member of our fleet.
October 1997 – Angel One Transport became the first Pediatric Specialty Transport Service to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport Services (CAMTS).
Summer 1999 – Purchased N199CH Sikorsky S-76A purchased from Amway Corporation. This replaced N792CH.
Spring 2000 – We replaced the 1989 “Angel Two” ambulance with a new 2000 model Ford E450 Ambulance. This ambulance was customized specifically for our transports and included a TV / VCR for patients comfort.
June 2000 – ACH opened 2 new rooftop helipads on the West Wing of the hospital.
October 2000 – Successfully completed the re-accreditation process for CAMTS.
July 2002 – Angel One pilot and mechanical operations were transferred to Keystone Helicopters.
September 2002 – Took delivery of N760AF Sikorsky S-76C+. This aircraft was purchased directly from Sikorsky. It was customized specifically for Angel One Transport. This was 1 of 2 aircraft purchased partially with an endowment from Log – a – Load.
October 2002 – Took delivery of N761AF Sikorsky S-76C+. This was the second aircraft purchased.
November 2002 – N761AF was on display at the Kansas City Air Medical Transport Conference.
July 2003 – Angel One began operations under our own FAA Part 135 Certificate.
August 2004 – Took delivery of a new International R4400 ambulance named “Angel One”
October 2005 – Named the AAMS 2005 Transport Program of the Year.
May 2006 – Moved into new office / dispatch quarters in the ACH Office Building.
October 2006 – Reaccredited by CAMTS.
April 2007 – Angel One Dispatch recognized in the Emergency Number Professional Magazine
April – May 2007 – BJ Raysor recognized in the Vertical Magazine
July 2007 - Took delivery of a new 2007 Chevrolet C4500 ambulance named “Angel Three”.
