General Pediatric Clinic

The General Pediatric Clinic provides diagnosis, treatment and/or follow-up of children with general health problems. Preventive medicine including periodic immunizations, physical examinations, positive newborn screens and child health maintenance are provided. Appropriate subspecialty referrals are made when necessary.

Rapid Flu Testing

The Arkansas Children's Microbiology laboratory is currently not offering rapid influenza testing due to the low number of confirmed cases in Little Rock and the state. The rapid influenza test is known to be less accurate when there are a low number of influenza cases in the community, such as now. This can lead health care providers to make incorrect decisions regarding the management of their patients. During these periods, the Microbiology laboratory offers a much more sensitive and informative test for the diagnosis of influenza called the respiratory viral pathogen polymerase chain reaction. The test is capable of detecting 17 viruses known to cause respiratory tract infections.

Physicians here monitor the number of cases of influenza in the Little Rock and the states. Once local cases of influenza have increased, rapid influenza testing will be offered.

Both clinics are in the GPC but function independently of the GPC.
