Research Overview

Dr. Bhattacharyya is a computational biologist with primary interest in understanding disease and toxicity related pathophysiology using high-throughput systems biology approach. Recent advances in high-throughput ‘omics’ technologies like genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics have vastly increased the potential to yield novel, disease-specific biomarkers with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. Her research interest lies in biomarker discovery through high-throughput profiling of biofluids like serum, plasma, urine and tissue/cell-culture using different ‘omics’ platforms , combining experimental approaches with multivariate statistics and pattern recognition techniques as well as systematic integration of various omic data in combination with literature mining and network analysis to understand the mechanisms of disease/toxicity.

Another focus of Dr. Bhattacharyya’s research is to improve Quality Control methods at both sample processing and data analysis levels in mass spectrometry-based proteomic and metabolomic experiments to detect biomarkers with increased repeatability and reproducibility. She has a PhD in Bioinformatics through the UALR and UAMS joint bioinformatics program and an MS in Proteomics from the University of Alberta, Canada.
