Center for Effective Parenting

The Center for Effective Parenting (CEP) attempts to positively impact children through a focus on improving parenting skills. The Center is a collaborative project of the Jones Center for Families in Springdale, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), and Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH). Dr. Nicholas Long, Professor of Pediatrics at UAMS and ACH, is the Center’s director.

The Center focuses its efforts in the areas of service, training, and research. By focusing efforts in these three areas the Center strives to have a significant impact not only on parents and children in Arkansas but also on parents and children across the nation.

CEP utilizies a multitarget-multimethod approach to broadly disseminate a continuum of parenting information, support, and training activities. The program incorporates innovative approaches, emerging technologies, as well as traditional approaches. The program focuses many of its efforts statewide but has centers in Northwest Arkansas (Jones Center in Springdale) and in Little Rock (Arkansas Children’s Hospital).

The Center’s website (www.parenting-ed.org) contains a wealth of information for parents including free handouts on various parenting topics, recommended parenting websites, and information about their free parenting classes.
