Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
We're here when your child deserves world-class medical treatment.
At the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), our 104-bed NICU is equipped and staffed to deliver a full-range of medical care services. From at-risk infants to critically ill neonates throughout the state, the NICU at Arkansas Children's Hospital has been the preferred choice in intensive care for mothers, expectant mothers, and infants throughout Arkansas.
ACH, Conway Regional Health System Announce Nursery Alliance
In November 2016, Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) and Conway Regional Health System (CRHS) announced an affiliation agreement that creates a pediatric nursery alliance between the hospitals. The Arkansas Children’s Nursery Alliance puts into place coordination of care between neonatologists at ACH’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and physicians in Conway Regional’s NICU and newborn nursery to help further improve the quality of newborn care. Read more about the coordination of care for neonates is first in-state for ACH.
24-Hour Medical Assistance for Your Growing Family
Our highly skilled and compassionate neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, pediatric residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other team members provide coverage for all infants and families, including 24-hour in-house coverage.
Comprehensive neonatal clinical services include advanced pharmacologic and nutritional support in collaboration with neonatal pharmacologists and dieticians. Specialized clinical services include High-Frequency Ventilation, Nitric Oxide Therapy, Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation.
Neonatologists are actively engaged in several areas of research including neonatal ventilation; selective head/body cooling after hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy; effect of infant nutrition and nutritional supplementation on growth and development and subsequent brain function; stem cell differentiation/developmental biology; pain control in neonates; refinement of discharge planning and long-term follow-up as well as comprehensive medical management of complex NICU graduates.
Subspecialists from all the pediatric disciplines are available for consultation for any number of medical needs 24 hours a day. No matter the circumstance, we are here to assist you and your family during your time of need.
We are here not only to care for your precious baby but also for you and your entire family. Our goal is for you to participate in your baby's care during the entire hospital stay so that you feel comfortable when it is time for you and your family to take your baby home. We also have a special place for you to rest in the NICU Family House. In the Family House you will find:
- A Family Services Assistant available 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Chair beds, lockers, and showers
- Two sleeping spaces for parents/guardians/grandparents as space allows
- A laundry area and kitchenette for families and friends
Though most mothers and their precious young ones do not need around-the-clock consultation services, most patients, and their families are extremely comforted by the fact that we are here at any time.
