Junior Volunteers School and Summer Program Information
The ACH Junior Volunteer Program introduces high school students (ages 14-18) to the world of volunteering and health care careers. Junior volunteers gain new skills, meet new people, and help make a difference in the community!
Teens must be 14 years old to apply. To participate in the program, Junior Volunteers must have two letters of reference, adhere to the rules and regulations, and complete a two-part TB Skin Test by the program deadline. Application packets will be mailed for the program at certain times of the year. Junior volunteers will need to complete these packets and return them by the program deadline. The program is selective in admission, meaning we have more teens requesting information than we have positions available. For this reason, submitting an early application is strongly encouraged.
Juniors can serve in direct patient contact areas and indirect patient contact areas. Some of these placements include:
Art Carts
Outpatient Clinics
Clerical areas
Laboratory
Gift Shop
Fitness Center
School Program - FULL The Junior Volunteer School Program deadline is September 15th. Application packets will be available for the school program beginning July 1st. Again, we encourage you to request a packet and return it as early as possible. After returning the completed packet, if the volunteer is selected to move forward an interview with the applicant and parent or guardian is required.
Junior Volunteers volunteer in the outpatient areas of the hospital. During the school program, teens typically come in one half day per week for a 9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 pm shift for the entire school year. These areas operate during weekday hours and for that reason, most students' schedules only allow them to volunteer during the summer when they are not in school.
Summer Program The Summer Junior Volunteer program deadline is April 1st. Application packets will be available for the summer program beginning February 1st. Again, we encourage you to request a packet and return it as early as possible. After returning the completed packet, if the volunteer is selected to move forward an interview with the applicant and parent or guardian is required.
During the summer program, Junior Volunteers come in for a half day of service (Monday through Thursday). Two 3-week sessions are available for the summer:
Session 1- June 7th – June 25th
Session 2- July 12th – July 29th
