Volunteer & Patient Testimonials

"Dear Volunteer Services, Please thank the people that made the caps. This is the first time my 9-year-old grandson has ever volunteered to wear a hat. I was offered the hats in the pharmacy. I responded, Okay, I'll take a light blue one for my grandson, that's his favorite color. That did the trick! Thanks, thanks! My granddaughter likes hers, too.

Thanks again,
Mary"

“Dear Child Life Volunteer,

I just wanted to write you a note of thanks on behalf of my son, Jacob. On October 1, 2001, he was scheduled for both feet to be operated on. He was a real trooper; me... a nervous wreck. Dad... same as me!

Then as we were moved into the last room before surgery, the nurse gave my son a blanket. It was a patchwork quilt, similar to one I had been given by my grandmother years ago. A calm came over all three of us. The surgery went fine, and in the recovery room I immediately knew where my son was by the blanket covering his large casts!

He has clung to that blanket every nap and night since. So while he naps right now, I thought I would send a few words to you to express my 'heart-overflowing gratitude' for this small but huge act of love and kindness to a child that you didn’t know.

Thanks,
Arlene”

• “Having a child say, ‘Playroom? There’s a playroom? Mom, can I go?’” Karen
