Ways You Can Help

Check out our 2008 Seasonal Wish List to view items we need for our patients.

Family Packs Needed
Are you looking for a project for your group or organization? We have a need for “family packs” – a Ziploc bag (7-8 inches or 1 quart) full of small toiletries and personal hygiene items. Travel size items are desired for convenience-toothbrushes, small toothpastes, mouthwash, combs, soaps, shampoo/conditioners, lotions, deodorants, razors, and small sewing kits. Small writing tablets and ink pens are also appreciated. These items are provided to our parents and caregivers who have a need for them during their hospital stay. If you would like to donate these items, please email or call our office for more information (volunteerservices@archildrens.org or 501-364-1825).

Items Needed for ACH's Burn Center
Many of our Burn Center patients have long stays here at ACH.  Your group or organization can help make their stay a little more comfortable by providing certain supplies!  Our Burn Center treats both adult and pediatric patients, so we need activities to occupy a wide age-range of patients.  Toiletry items (soaps, lotions, etc.), VHS tapes or DVDs, portable CD players, music CDs, phone cards, pajamas (preferably button-down), robes, and slippers can help make a patient's stay more comfortable.  Scarves, hats, gloves, and even picture frames make great gifts for these patients as well.  Please contact Volunteer Services (volunteerservices@archildrens.org or 501-364-1825) with any questions.

Clothing Needed for Emergency Department
Many times children in our Emergency Department have been involved in an accident or other event and need comfortable, non-binding clothing to go home in. Your group or organization can help supply us with these clothing items! We are in need of shorts and solid-colored T-shirts (child and adult sizes, neutral colors for boys and girls). Please contact Volunteer Services (volunteerservices@archildrens.org or 501-364-1825) with any questions!

Isolation Activity Kits
Many of our patients enjoy having activities to do while in their rooms. Your group or organization can put together Activity Packets for our patients to enjoy in their rooms. Please see the item descriptions and pictures below for each age group. The items can be placed in a small tote bag or in a large ziploc bag to donate to ACH. Please contact Volunteer Services at volunteerservices@archildrens.org with any questions!

Heart Center Family Care Packages
Are you looking for a project for your group or organization? We could use your help! Patients and families who come to Arkansas Children's Hospital for cardiac surgery have a lot on their minds. The Heart Center presents each patient's family with a care package when they arrive for surgery. The Heart Center hopes to make their stay a little easier with everyday items for personal care, as well as a few specialty items. Each bag contains travel size toiletry items (deodorant, body wash, mouth wash & a toothbrush with toothpaste), as well as a disposable camera, phone card, small snack, puzzle or game, small notebook or journal and pen, coloring book with crayons, and a small stuffed bear. If you would like to donate any of these items for the Heart Center bags, please email or call our office for more information (volunteerservices@archildrens.org or 501-364-1825).

Comfort Food
Comfort Food is a new program at ACH designed to assist families. Groups can donate pre-packaged food for our ICU waiting rooms. A cookie, a sandwich, or even a warm dinner has the ability to help parents of critically-ill patients manage through difficult times. It offers them not only sustenance, but an opportunity to take a break from their stressors and share a moment with others in similar situations. Our goal at ACH is to partner with our neighbors in the community to meet these parents’ needs. There are various ways to participate in this program and offer support to our parents. If you (or your community group) are interested in the program, you can set your own level of involvement in the Comfort Food program. You may opt to contribute once, or even see a monthly event as a more suitable volunteer opportunity. Please contact Volunteer Services (volunteerservices@archildrens.org or 501-364-1825) to find out more about program participation options.

Needlework Items Needed
We have a need for solid colored blankets/quilts approximately 36" by 48". These blankets will be used for children's craft projects. We are also in need of blankets and quilts of all sizes, pillows, large boppers, and solid-colored tote canvas bags (16-18” wide by 20-22” tall with an 8” gusset - muslin or solid-colored bags preferred). Also, in light of the upcoming Holiday season, we will be in need of stockings. The pattern for this stocking is specific. Click here to see the patterns and read more information about our needlework needs. Please email volunteerservices@archildrens.org or call 501-364-1825 with any questions.

Mock Party
Host a mock party for your organization or group, request that your guests bring gifts suitable for children, and then donate gifts to ACH. You may host any of the suggested mock parties (Sweet Sixteen, Un-Birthday Parties, or Baby Showers). . .or even create one of your own!

Seasonal Projects
Some of Arkansas Children's Hospital’s projects are short-term or seasonal and may be outdoors such as landscaping, clean-up or painting. They may also be inside projects such as cleaning playrooms, toys or assisting with holiday decorations. These projects are very important to ACH and help us complete larger tasks in a timely manner. These tasks contribute to an improved overall appearance of the hospital, which creates a very pleasant environment for our patients and their families.
