Stephen Canon, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Chief of the Pediatric Urology Division at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Canon also is a researcher at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the Inaugural Recipient of the ACH Auxiliary-John F. Redman, M.D. Endowed Chair in Urology.  Dr. Canon serves as President of the Arkansas Urologic Society and as a member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology.

Dr. Canon received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston in 1999 and completed his Surgery Internship and Urology Residency at the University of Tennessee – Memphis in 2000 and 2005, respectively.  He then completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Urology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, in 2007. 

Dr. Canon’s research interests and publications include minimally invasive surgery in pediatric urology, hypospadias, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and the utilization of technology to improve patient care.  He and his team have received grant funding and have been awarded for the investigation of antibiotic therapy before and after hypospadias surgery.  He also has received grant funding for translational work with Baylor College of Medicine in the evaluation of epigemonic and genomic factors of hypospadias development.  Lastly, he and his team are authorities in the implementation and analysis of telehealth medicine utilization in pediatric urology practice with prospective evaluations underway.
