My principal interest is the development of molecular biology tools to guide surgical decision making. Specifically, I study how microRNAs (miRNAs) function within vascular endothelium of vascular anomalies, and how their abnormal expression can lead to aberrant angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. These studies will facilitate the discovery of novel circulating miRNA biomarkers for diagnosis/treatment monitoring and the development of deliverable “antagomirs” as molecular therapies.
