ECMO Program Receives Recognition

The ECMO program at ACH was recognized as a Platinum Center of Excellence by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) at the 31st annual international ELSO meeting! This award is notated and recognized in U.S. News & World Report, as well as Parents Magazine. ACH is 1 of 9 children's hospitals in the U.S., and 1 of only 23 institutions in the entire world, recognized with this designation! Thank you to Dr. Michele Moss, Blake Frasier, Scott Furth and Jenny Janisko for their tireless efforts and leadership in our ECMO program.

Sleep Disorders Center Changes Process

The Sleep Disorders Center boasts of a fully equipped and newly upgraded state-of-the-art Pediatric Sleep Lab open 7 days a week and a fully staffed Sleep Disorders Clinic open 5 days a week. Currently patients can be scheduled to be seen in the clinic within 2 weeks. We also are proud of a state-of-the-art PAP adherence program equipped with experienced respiratory therapists and a psychologist to help improve adherence to PAP in children.

To better determine the needs of your patients and to better streamline our processes, all patients will be evaluated by a provider with a clinic appointment either in person or via telemedicine in the Sleep Disorders Center before a sleep study can be ordered. We will still continue to perform sleep studies referred by ENT physicians and pulmonologists when the only suspected diagnosis is obstructive sleep apnea or the study is ordered for titration of respiratory support equipment like mechanical ventilator, PAP, oxygen or tracheostomy use. If any other sleep related diagnosis is suspected, a Sleep Disorders clinic visit is required prior to scheduling the study.

If you have a patient in urgent need of a sleep study or a Sleep Disorders clinic visit, call 501-364-1893 and speak to one of our specialty nurses.

Referrals should continue to be sent with clinic notes via Healthy Planet Link or OnBase (fax: 501-978-6440). Please provide the specific reason for referral (e.g. poor quality sleep, evaluate for sleep apnea, excessive daytime sleepiness, etc.).

Arkansas Children’s Sleep Disorders Center thanks you for the continued referrals and for partnering with us to care for your patients.

Dream Clinic Collaborative Care Improves Sleep Quality

The DREAM clinic was created from a collaborative effort to help children improve sleep quality. While removing tonsils and adenoids (T&A) has a high cure rate of sleep apnea for most children, there is a small group of patients that continue to have difficulty obtaining high quality sleep. The DREAM Team is composed of physicians (oral surgery, sleep medicine, pulmonology, pediatric surgery, otolaryngology) and therapists (respiratory, nutrition, psychology) to provide a truly unique treatment plan tailored to each child.

There can be many reasons why a child continues to have poor sleep after a T&A. A sleep study provides additional information used to discuss what surgical and non-surgical treatments are best.

Arkansas Children’s DREAM Clinic will be on the forefront of innovation, education, and patient care founded on clinical research and outcomes. For patients that live in the region or across the world, we aim to set the standard in setting outcomes, providing the best patient and family experience, and providing cost-effective care.
