Live, Learn and Play Podcast: Every Piece of Compassion

July 30, 2019

Taylor Long’s personal experience with Arkansas Children’s led him to pursue a career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse, a role he has held for the last three years. Long’s younger brother spent time at Arkansas Children’s when Long was a teenager, allowing him to witness firsthand what it means to serve children and their families.

“I felt compelled because I knew that was one of my strengths,” he said. “I felt like I could really help somebody out in that situation and be there for those patients and their families in the most difficult time. Whenever they feel like they didn’t have anybody to turn to, I wanted to be that person.”

As a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse, Long is charged with caring for some of the most challenging cases in the state, a responsibility that he doesn’t take lightly. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a 26-bed unit located on the third floor of the main hospital and provides care for the sickest and most critically injured children in the state.

Tune into our latest episode of the Live, Learn & Play Podcast to hear Long share about the culture of nursing at Arkansas Children’s and the experience of being a nurse at a nationally ranked children’s hospital. Plus, you’ll get a behind the scenes look at what makes the care at a children’s hospital different.
