Leadership Team

The Leadership Team is comprised of the faculty and staff who manage the work of the three cores: the Administrative and Scientific Support Core, the Biostatistics and Informatics Core and the Metabolism Core. The Leadership Team works together to provide services and support to junior faculty including but not limited to:

  • Reviewing and critiquing all project proposals
  • Grant formatting and writing assistance
  • IRB, CT.gov, and other regulatory guidance
  • Community engagement
  • Senior mentoring
  • Development of junior investigators

The Leadership Team meets twice per month.

Judith L. Weber, PhD, RD

Dr. Weber is the Director of the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute and Professor of Pediatrics in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Weber is a childhood obesity researcher with over 20 years of experience in obesity prevention studies targeting modifiable individual risk behaviors, environmental risk factors, and state and national risk reduction policies. She has a history of consistent funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for studies addressing obesity and related chronic diseases. Dr. Weber obtained her PhD in Nutritional Sciences in 1994, and completed her postdoctoral training in Physiology in 1999, from the University of Arizona. She is also a Registered Dietician.

 

Elisabet Børsheim, PhD

Dr. Børsheim is the Director of the Metabolism Core of the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute. Further, she is the Director of the Physical Activity Core Laboratory at the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center (ACNC) and leads the Physical Activity, Energetics and Metabolism Research Lab. She is a Professor of Pediatrics and Geriatrics in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Børsheim obtained her PhD in exercise physiology from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, and completed her postdoctoral training in metabolism at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  Her research interests are in the regulation of substrate and energy metabolism, specifically using stable isotope technologies, and how physical activity affects health throughout the lifespan. She is funded by USDA and NIH.

 

Joy Rockenbach

Joy Rockenbach is the Associate Director for the Administrative Core for the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention and the Faith-based Coordinator for the Arkansas Department of Health, linking communities of faith to public health resources.  ADH contributes as in-kind a portion of Ms. Rockenbach’s time to the development and work of the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention and the Administrative Core specifically in community engagement.

 A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in health education, Ms. Rockenbach has spent 27 years working in public health and chronic disease prevention.  During that time, she has focused her work in the community on assessment, program planning and implementation.  She has guided community coalition building efforts in tobacco, cancer control and obesity prevention encouraging policy, system and environmental change in all communities.  For the last 13 years, Ms. Rockenbach has worked solely on community obesity prevention efforts.  She joined the staff of the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement to help develop the strategy for weighing and measuring all Arkansas students in accordance with legislative Act 1220 of 2003. In 2005, she moved that work to the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) in a joint agreement with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH).  She is the founding Chair of the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention (ArCOP)

 

Jami Jones, MBA

Program Administrator

Jami is the Program Administrator for the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute. Jami obtained her Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2015 and has three years of clinical research experience with various types of sponsored trials: Industry, Cooperative and Investigator Initiated. She is certified as a clinical research specialist through the UAMS CRS program. She manages the daily administrative operations of the Center, tracks data for the annual Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR) and Scientific Information Reporting System (SIRS) and provides assistance to junior investigators with grant formatting and regulatory services such as IRB submission, protocol, consent and HIPAA development.

 

Joy Moix

Budget Manager

Joy is the Financial Manager for the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention. She is a certified Grants Management specialist and is responsible for managing all Center-related budgets and contracts including the three cores and all junior investigator project budgets.  Joy offers key support throughout the grant development and post-award process, providing updated budgets, projections, and reports.

 

Lori Delfos

Business Manager

Lori is the Business Manager for the Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention.  She is responsible for managing all administrative support functions of the Center, and coordinating all research project support meetings, trainings, and collaborative activities. She is responsible for processing all purchases for the three cores and all junior investigator research projects, as well as managing all necessary office procurement.
