Volunteer Opportunities at ACH

Arkansas Children’s Hospital depends on volunteers to provide assistance for the patients, their families and hospital staff. Whether you’re a retiree wanting to give back to the community, a student hoping to fulfill a service requirement, or just have a simple desire to help others during your free time, there’s a wide array of opportunities at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Because of the nature of care Arkansas Children’s Hospital provides, all volunteers are carefully screened, processed and placed in appropriate assignments. This process includes the candidate’s undergoing a criminal background check, providing a current TB (tuberculosis) skin test, attending a hospital orientation and interviewing individually with a volunteer services representative. All volunteers in high school between the ages of 14-18 are eligible for the ACH Junior Volunteer Program and must follow a separate screening process. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures. The process for becoming an Arkansas Children’s Hospital volunteer takes time, but it is meant to ensure the safety of patients and families as well as the success of our volunteers. For more information, contact Volunteer Services at 501/364-1825 or e-mail us at volunteerservices@archildrens.org.

All volunteer assignments at Arkansas Children’s Hospital can be classified as either direct patient care areas or indirect patient care areas. Volunteers wishing to serve in a direct patient care area are required to attend a Volunteer and Child Life orientation. Volunteers interested in indirect patient care areas (i.e Gift Shop or clerical) will attend an individualized orientation.
