Tyler L. CarlLee, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the shoulder, elbow and knee. Dr. CarlLee was born and raised in Little Rock, Ark., and is a proud Little Rock Central High Tiger. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance.
He completed medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), where he was awarded the A.J. Thompson, Ethel Brickey Hicks, Barton Foundation, Class of 1957, Carlton Sturms, Roberta and Dorothy Bowling, and Winston K. Shorey scholarships. He received the Schlumberger, Buchanan Key, Horace Marvin and Whitney Awards for outstanding academic achievement. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society during his third year of medical school.
After graduating from UAMS at the top of his class, he completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. During his residency, he received several awards, including the Resident Teacher of the Year Award in 2019 and the Making a Difference Award for Patient Care. He also helped provide care for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes collegiate athletic teams during his training.
Following his orthopedic surgery residency, Dr. CarlLee completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder/Elbow Fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, N.C., where he trained alongside recognized leaders in sports medicine and shoulder/elbow surgery. During his fellowship, he served as team physician for the Carolina Panthers NFL football team, the Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), the Charlotte Forty-Niners football and basketball teams, athletes at Davidson College, Queens College, Gardner-Webb University, and J.C. Smith College, and West Charlotte High School. Since returning to Arkansas in 2021, Dr. CarlLee has continued his dedication to athlete care as Head Team Physician for University of Arkansas Razorback football, softball and gymnastics, while also serving as a recognized team physician for a wide network of area schools including Fayetteville, Springdale and Farmington school districts, Shiloh Christian, Greenwood, both Fort Smith schools and Greenland — ensuring that student-athletes across the region have access to expert orthopedic care close to home.
Dr. CarlLee's clinical focus is restoring function, relieving pain and helping patients return to activities that matter most to them. He performs a wide range of procedures including knee arthroscopy with meniscus repair, partial meniscectomy, ACL reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy with rotator cuff repair and labral repair, and treats traumatic injuries to the shoulder, elbow and knee. He has received unique and focused training in complex procedures of the knee including multi-ligamentous reconstruction, bone realignment procedures, and cartilage preservation and restoration procedures.
Dr. CarlLee has published peer-reviewed journal articles, presented research nationally, and has served as an editor and reviewer for an orthopedic journal.
A proud Arkansas native, Dr. CarlLee is deeply committed to the community that shaped him. He and his family are honored to be back home, and he looks forward to providing the people of Northwest Arkansas with the same level of orthopedic care found at the nation's leading academic medical centers — close to where they live, work and compete.
