Advancing quality improvement (QI) is an essential anchor for quality collaboratives like the Nursery Alliance. QI helps standardize care, measure progress and ultimately optimize health outcomes through proven frameworks. As a result, we are committed to implementing QI projects to ensure long-term survival and healthy development for our region’s most vulnerable patients.

Ongoing collaborative and quality projects:

• Arkansas Children's NICU nurse educators provide S.T.A.B.L.E. training to staff at partner sites. This program offers a cross-training opportunity focused on neonatal education for post-resuscitation and pre-transport stabilization.  S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for six assessment and care modules - sugar, temperature, airway, blood pressure, lab work and emotional support.
• ACH Nursery Alliance, in collaboration with HALO, launched the Always Safe Sleep Project, an exciting new quality improvement project focused on improving safe sleep practices for newborns and supporting families from day one. Participating nursery alliance sites receive staff training and education for families including the American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep teaching tips. Families are discharged home with a safe sleep sack and additional resources while also auditing their baby’s bed space while inpatient. Families that participate provide safe sleep feedback at one, six and 12 months. Our goal is to capture the importance of hospitals providing safe sleep education to families that translate into families practicing safe sleep at home with their newborn through their first year of life.
