Jorge Guerrero, MD

Dr. Jorge A. Guerrero specializes in congenital heart defects at Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) and is board certified in anesthesia and pediatric anesthesia.

He started his medical career at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara Medical School in Zapopan, Mexico. His anesthesia training led him to become the chief resident at Western National Medical Center.

Dr. Guerrero gained national attention during his residency and made important contributions to research in pediatric anesthesia.

At the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, his role merged his love for teaching with clinical work, guiding new anesthesiologists. He grew his skills in pediatric, cardiac and transplant anesthesia while working with Tejas Anesthesia, P.A. and Methodist Children’s Hospital, both in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Guerrero was key in creating a pediatric anesthesia team at Star Anesthesia. This work improved the team and significantly impacted pediatric care in South Texas.

He also served as director of congenital heart anesthesia at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was instrumental in helping grow the congenital cardiac line and collaborating with teams in the operating room, pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit.

He shares his knowledge through lectures, medical journals and mentoring to shape future medical professionals. His special interests include neuroplasticity, high-performance human physiology and mind-body connections in eastern philosophies.

Dr. Guerrero is fluent in English and Spanish. Outside of serving patients, he enjoys driving and restoring cars, motorcycles and bicycles.
