The Gastroenterology (GI) Lab is a procedural lab conducting sedated and unsedated tests on patients with gastrointestinal complaints. Each patient must have been seen by a gastroenterologist with privileges to conduct tests in the lab. The procedures most commonly performed in the GI Lab are EGDs, colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, esophageal motility, imaging capsule, pH probe, esophageal intraluminal impedance studies, breath hydrogen collection (for lactose or sucrose intolerance) and 13C urea breath test for H. pylori. Upper GI series, barium swallow study, liver biopsies and lower GI series (barium or hypaque enema) are performed in Radiology.
