Dr. Sanders has served as the principal investigator and site collaborator on many single and multi-center clinical trials since 2004. He has led several observational and clinical trials in the field of pediatric critical care. In addition, Dr. Sanders has authored or co-authored 36 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 8 reviews, and 7 book chapters. He served as the principal investigator for Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) in the NICHD Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN) from May to December 2009, and beginning in 2022, he is currently serving as an ACH’s ancillary site principal investigator for the CPCCRN. Dr. Sanders is an active investigator in the NEAR4KIDs, NUTRIENT, PARDIE, PICFLU, and VAIN subgroups within the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) network. He works closely with the National Emergency Airway Registry for Children (NEAR4KIDs) subgroup conceptualizing and designing studies as well as prospectively enrolling eligible patients in multi-center studies. These investigations have made significant advancements in our understanding of safe airway practices in children.
