Vivian Vega, M.D., M.P.H., graduated from the Universidad de San Carlos, School of Medicine in Guatemala City, Guatemala before completing her pediatric residency at NYC Health + Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. She went on to complete fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a concentration in community health sciences, focusing on urban and immigrant health, from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, N.Y.  During her MPH training, she was named fellow of the Clinical Research Scholars Training (CREST) Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and received the Dr. Mahfouz H. Zaki Memorial Award for Maternal and Child Health.

With a special interest in nutrition, Dr. Vega received advanced training through the Pediatric Advanced Nutrition Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pa.

Her experience spans from pediatric intensive care and primary care to patient education and research. Through volunteering experiences, she further developed her skills and passions for malnutrition, pediatric gastroenterology including intestinal failure, enteral feeding tube management and complex gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr. Vega’s work in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition has been recognized through presentations, lectures and quality improvement initiatives. She was nationally recognized by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition with the Endoscopy Prize for Original Research for her work in a controlled trial of Ondansetron use during pediatric colonoscopy preparation.

She is passionate about improving the lives of children through compassionate, evidence-based care and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Dr. Vega sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Southwest Little Rock Clinic and Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, exploring new restaurants, traveling and dancing.
