Hannah Smashey Lewis, M.D., is a neurologist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock and an assistant professor of pediatrics in the division of child neurology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Dr. Lewis earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and music from Hendrix College in Conway before attending UAMS for medical school and completing her child neurology residency there. She began her healthcare career as an Emergency Medical Technician with additional training in remote emergency management — experiences that continue to shape her patient-centered, team-based approach to clinical care.

Dr. Lewis is the assistant program director for the child neurology residency program, the physician lead for the ACH Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program and the Neurodevelopmental Clinic and is a physician for the New Onset Seizure Clinic. She is committed to improving access to specialty care and travels monthly to the ACH Jonesboro clinic to bring pediatric neurologic services closer to families in northeast Arkansas.

Her clinical and research interests include neurodevelopmental disabilities, pediatric epilepsy and neurologic outcomes in children with complex medical conditions such as congenital heart disease. She has authored peer-reviewed articles in Neurology, Pediatric Neurology and other journals, with scholarly work spanning pediatric demyelinating disorders, epilepsy, neurogenetic conditions.

Dr. Lewis is strongly committed to medical education. In addition to her leadership roles, she has developed and implemented curricula across multiple levels of training, from undergraduate education to child neurology fellows, and remains actively engaged in resident and medical student teaching and mentorship.
